ROUTE DETAILS AND PRICE

Machame Route

  • The Machame is the most popular route & can be busy. The trek can start early in the morning at 08:00 am to avoid congestion.
  • The minimum days to climb is 6 days. However, its recommended to use 7 days as it can improve acclimatization and increase chances to summit Uhuru peak (the final peak).
  • This route has a high summit success rate as it allows opportunities to ‘walk high, sleep low’ (better acclimatization).
  • It offers stunning scenery with lots of diversity in the landscape, flora and birds.
  • You will trek through Kilimanjaro’s five distinct climatic zones – Cultivation, Montane forest, Moorland, Alpine Desert & Ice Cap while experiencing the expansive views of the Shira Plateau, the Lava Tower, the Great Barranco Wall and Southern Icefield.
  • Unlike all the routes on Kilimanjaro, the Machame route is physically challenging. This route does have areas of steep descents over rocks and there is a section where you will need to scramble up the Barranco Wall though it is not that difficult and you will have a care and help from your guide.
  • The final ascent to top starts  at Barafu Camp (4,600m) which is the base camp for the final ascent to Kilimanjaro. We can also start this ascent in the morning in a preference of clients. The advantage of midnight ascent is possibility of summit at dawn and sunrise view from the top and descent from the top will not be very hot.
  • The descent is via the Mweka route which is shortest route to moshi town.

Lemosho Route

  • The Lemosho,  starts from Londorossi Gate and as trekking through rainforest, then cross up to Shira Ridge(Kilimanjaro’s third summit), and trek Shira Plateau while witnessing the stunning view of Shira Cathedral.
  • Due to the high success rate and and the fact that it’s a very scenic and mostly unspoiled route where you might see wild game, Lemosho is highly recommended. The route is longer with a steadier climb which helps acclimatization.
  • 7 days is the minimum for this route but for better acclimatization we recommend 8 days.
  • The Lemosho route via Northern circuit and the Western Breach can also be done.
  • The descent is along the Mweka Route which is shortest route to moshi town

Northern Circuit Trail

  • Experience the unknown side of Kilimanjaro. This is the spectacular route which starts in the west and traverses along the remote North side of Kilimanjaro where you can see down into Kenya and ascend the summits via School Hut (4,720m).
  • It gives you the best combination of Lemosho and Rongai Routes.
  • It is true wilderness and rarely trekked, if you looking for something different then this is the best choice.
  • Because of the longer duration (number of days) you get greater acclimatization.
  • It doesn’t include the Barranco Wall so it’s good for trekkers who prefer not to scramble up.
  • This climb can be done in 7 days but it makes a huge difference to acclimatization to take an extra day.

  • The route has fewer climbers than most of the other routes.
  • The drive to the trail has improved with a tarmac road therefore it easy to drive to the starting point.
  • This trail can be used at any time of the year, even in the rainy season.
  • Because the forest is not very thick sometimes can see animals from Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
  • This route has a very nice view of the beautiful Mawenzi peak which is the second highest on Kilimanjaro, also spend a night on its base.
  • This route descends via the Marangu route.
